The Information Center “Genderdoc-M” said a number of homosexuals became victims of extremist actions staged by an illegal group, while the activists for the rights of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and homosexual) people are threatened and subject to attacks. The members of “Genderdoc-M” complain that the law enforcement bodies take no measures to stop the wrongdoings.
In a news conformance at IPN on November 25, Angela Frolov, program coordinator at “Genderdoc-M”, said the group became known for ‘hunting’ pedophiles, but in fact its actions are aimed against homosexuals and the videos placed on the Internet are a proof of this. In the videos, one of which was presented at the news conference, members of the group are shown ill-treating and humiliating persons of a nontraditional sexual orientation.
“At the beginning, they wanted to cooperate with us, but we told them that we cannot cooperate with a group that works illegally. Afterward, by their threats, they sowed that they indeed hunt not pedophiles, but homosexuals and this is their main goal. Evidently our organization became involved and this fight has lasted for a year already. We used all the legal ways possible to stop the work of this group,” stated Angela Frolov.
Human rights expert and lawyer Doina Ioana Straisteanu said that the identity of the humiliated persons who appear in the videos wasn’t known. “Genderdoc-M” informed the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office, but their complaint was remitted to another institution and no decision has been yet taken. No legal action and no measures were taken to arrest the members of the group, especially its leader, who engages minors in these illegalities, including because these cannot be held accountable.
Doina Ioana Straisteanu said that the victims from the video were meanwhile identified and these agreed to file complaints. The law enforcement bodies said the group’s leader was put on the wanted list, but cannot be found. However, he appears at different events staged in Chisinau. As the national law enforcement bodies do not do them justice, the members of “Genderdoc-M” will go to international courts of law.
The head of “Genderdoc-M” Center Alexei Marcicov said the law enforcement bodies must annihilate such extremist groups, while the pedophiles should be deal with by specialists. He presented pictures of the members of the group from social networking sites where there are Nazi symbols, showing that the group is an extremist one.
