Gazprom: Transit of Russian gas through Ukraine was stopped

The Russian gas giant Gazprom on Wednesday morning announced that on January 1, 2025, 8:00 a.m. (Moscow time), it was deprived of the technical and legal possibility of supplying gas via Ukraine, IPN reports.

In a press release, Gazprom says that "on January 1, 2025, at 08:00 a.m. (Moscow time), the period of validity of the documents signed on December 30, 2019, namely the agreement between OAO Gazprom and NAK Naftogaz Ukraine on the organization of the transportation of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine and the cooperation agreement between the transmission systems operators for gas of Russia and Ukraine – OAO Gazprom and SRL Ukraine – expired.

Gazprom explains that "due to the repeated and clearly expressed refusal of the Ukrainian side to extend these agreements, Gazprom was deprived of the technical and legal possibility of supplying gas through the territory of Ukraine on January 1, 2025 and, respectively at 08:00 a.m. (Moscow time), the supply of Russian gas through Ukraine was stopped."
