President Maia Sandu said there is the possibility that the governmental team led by Natalia Gavrilița will obtain a vote of confidence in Parliament. This is the main reason why she designated an upright and professional candidate as Prime Minister so that this could manage the economic crisis in the country. However, snap legislative elections should be triggered and the vote in Parliament will show which of the groups want snap elections and which only mimic this interest, IPN reports.
“Starting from this option, I put forward a candidate who would be a very good Prime Minister, who could deal with the economic problems, who could restore foreign financing. If Parliament wants to support the Government, Missis Gavrilița is the most suitable candidate for Prime Minister, but we should first clean Parliament,” President Sandu stated in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel.
Even if representatives of the parliamentary parties announced that they want to have meetings with the President and the Prime Minister designate before the vote day, Maia Sandu said she does not intend to initiate new consultations with the parliamentary groups.
“Now the discussions should take place in Parliament, with the candidate and the team that this will present. Consultations with the President were held before the designation and the process should now be now transferred to Parliament,” stated the official.
She added that in the absence of a parliamentary majority that would support the Gavrilița Government, the best solution to the political crisis is to call snap parliamentary elections.
“I proposed a serious candidate I trust. This is an upright and skilled person. We can trigger snap elections only if the two attempts to vote in the Cabinet fail in Parliament. We will see how things develop the next few weeks,” stated Maia Sandu.
Under the law, the candidate designated as Prime Minister has 15 days to create the governmental team and work out the government program. This later asks for the Parliament’s vote of confidence. The legislative body can be dissolved if it fails to vote in the new Government by two attempts.
