Gas Natural Fenosa welcomes the cooperation between Moldova and the Union of the Electricity Industry Eurelectric. It considers that transition to a liberalized market in Moldova can take place faster and more efficiently if the relevant experience of Europe is applied. On July 3-4, a delegation of Eurelectric has paid a fact-finding visit to Chisinau, IPN reports.
The delegation’s goal was to inform themselves about the state of affairs in Moldova’s electricity sector with a view to establishing cooperation relations. Eurelectric secretary general Hans ten Berge told a news conference that now that Moldova signed the AA/DCFTA agreement, a powerful electricity regulator is needed to balance end-users’ interests and a favorable investment climate.
Hans ten Berge said that different member states pursue their own interests, but they all cooperate under the same European umbrella, the reliable supply of electricity, without interruptions, being one of their principles. The goal of the EU energy sector is to reduce COs emissions by 40% until 2030, in parallel with the restructuring of the energy market.
“We will install solar panels where there is sun, will produce eolian energy were there is wind, will use biomass where there are forests and hydro energy where there is water. We will also use fossil fuel and electricity and will distribute energy without monopolizing the production and supply system. The sustainable development and the European policy for decarbonizing the power sector must focus more on end-users,” stated Hans ten Berg.
Moldova, becoming a member of the Energy Community in 2009, pledged to transpose the EU legislative framework so as to adjust the standards and conditions for operating the electric power and natural gas sector to the EU’s.
Eurelectric consists of 30 full members representing the electricity industry of 32 countries, plus affiliates and associates on several other continents. Its mission is to contribute to the development and competitiveness of the electricity industry, to provide effective representation for the industry in public affairs, to ensure a cost-efficient, reliable supply through an integrated market and to promote the role of a low-carbon electricity mix in the advancement of society.
