Gas Natural Fenosa calls on Moldovan NGOs to propose educational projects

The Moldovan NGOs are urged to apply with educational projects to obtain financial support within a project initiated by Ziua Solidara (“Unity Day”), which is a nonprofit association founded to implement education projects in the more disadvantaged geographical areas where Gas Natural Fenosa works.

President of Gas Natural Fenosa in Moldova Silvia Radu said the project envisions the voluntary donation of the salary for one day by the employees in all the 25 countries where Gas Natural Fenosa Group is present. For its part, the company doubles the sum collected by employees and covers the management costs so that the full collected sum is allocated for the annual selected project, IPN reports.

Moldova was involved in the project for the firs time in 2001. The money was used to open a lyceum for people with visual impairments. “Ziua Solidara” in 2014 will also allocate subsidies to the associations, entities and education institutions that develop social projects in secondary and higher education. The association will contribute additional support in the form of equipment and school canteens, allocations for books, transport and living costs for students who will become scholars.

Speaking about the activity of Gas Natural Fenosa, Silvia Radu said that in 2013 the company from Moldova implemented an investment project of 177 million lei. 80% of this money was used to rehabilitate and extend the electric power networks and to introduce new management systems. Investments were also made in modernization. The company’s teams make field trips with iPod and iPad connected to the management systems of the corporation. They are thus able to see online the exact faults in the networks.

Next year the company plans to invest about 200 million lei. It also prepares for the liberalization of the market. “Next year we will create two enterprises – a distribution one and a marketing one - so as to enter the free energy market planned for 2015. Household users will be able to choose the supplier of electricity,” said Silvia Radu.

Gas Natural Fenosa in Moldova is now the largest private electric power distributor in the country, which serves over 836,000 clients.
