The state of emergency introduced by Parliament on October 22 on the request of the Government is expiring today, November 20. The measure was introduced for a period of 30 days and was in connection with struggles in negotiating a new gas supply deal with Russia.
With the state of emergency introduced, the Emergencies Commission was able to request 16,500 metric tons of fuel oil from the state reserve, while the state company Energocom was given 1.7 billion lei to buy gas on international markets.
In late October, daily reports from the gas transportation company Moldovatransgaz showed that the pressure in the system was critically low.
On November 1 a new five-year extension to the gas supply agreement with Gazprom took effect.
