Gagauzians will celebrate Wine Festival two times

The Gagauz people will celebrate the Wine Festival two times – in October together with the entire country and in November at local level, in the autonomous unit, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Wine Festival-2008 “Gagauz şarabin yortusu” will be marked on November 2 in Comrat, the press service of the Bashkan (Governor) of Gagauzia informed. The festival will be opened in the morning in the central square of Comrat. The festival participants will be presented after blessing the wine. Besides stands set up by wine companies and private winemakers, the visitors will see the national courts of Gagauzia. They could taste wine and national dishes of the peoples that live in the Autonomous Unit of Gagauzia. The results of the contests for the best home-made wine, best stand and national court will be made known in the afternoon. There will be selected winners in 18 categories and awarded the Top Prize. A performance by artistic groups from Turkey, Romania, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, the Transnistrian region and Gagauzia will be given between 11.00 and 14.00. There will be held contests, sports competitions and exhibitions of sweets, bakery products and sausages. The festival will close with a concert. The Wine Festival has been held in Comrat for seven years, but it became official only in 2007, when the executive of Gagauzia declared it a public holiday. Under the decision of October 18, the Wine Festival is celebrated yearly on the first Sunday of November. At the same time, the Moldovan authorities have announced that festivities to celebrate the National Wine Day will be held in all the district centers, in the municipality of Balti and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia on October 12.
