Gagauzia will protect country’s statehood, Mihail Formuzal

“Gagauzia will stay on guard to protect the statehood of the whole country. Somebody may consider that Moldova is a temporary project, but the Gagauz people already decided the region’s fate,” the Bashkan of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal said in the general meeting of deputies of all levels, IPN reports.

According to the official website of the Gagauz administration, Mihail Formuzal said the people of Gagauzia do not want Moldova to be divided, while those who speak about the Gagauz people as about separatists are political instigators.

The deputies validated the results of the February 2 referendums, where most of the people voted for the right of Gagauzia to decide its external course if Moldova loses its sovereignty and for the orientation of the country’s foreign policy to the Eurasian Union.

According to the Comrat informational portal Gagauzia Info, the deputies called on the central authorities to make everything possible to improve the relations with Russia. They also said that the Gagauz people on February 2 voted against the union with Romania, not against European salaries.

The meeting was attended by over 600 members of Parliament, deputies of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, local elected officials and civil society representatives.
