A special commission set up by the administration of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia finished inspecting the orchards in the region. The information will be sent to Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance “Rosselhoznadzor”, IPN reports.
According to the official website of the Gagauz administration, after the information is sent to Moscow, a Russian group of experts will come to southern Moldova to examine the state of fruit.
Earlier, the Bashkan of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal said in an interview that now the region’s administration acts as in the case of the ban on the import of wine and is making effort to establish personal relations with Russia so as to be able to export fruit to the Russian market.
Russia banned the import of fresh and canned fruit from Moldova in the middle of July. Analysts said these acts are to the detriment of the Kremlin as the Russian authorities will be unable to pursue the separation policy in Moldova. Last September, Russia imposed a ban on the import of Moldovan wine, but later resumed the import of wine from the breakaway Transnistrian region and from Gagauzia.
