The Piligrim-Demo Association has launched today, December 26, a new mass media project – Nokta (www.nokta.md). The new website will cover the most important events in the autonomous region of Gagauzia, but also from the whole of Moldova and from around the world. Each subject will be researched by journalists and civic activists from the region and other districts.
Project coordinator Mihail Sirkeli told a press conference at IPN that Nokta’s mission is to publish high quality stories, focusing on data journalism, deep analysis and covering key events, facts and opinions. Data journalism in particular will be what sets this project aside from the other Gagauz mass media.
“I want us to analyze a large amount of data and to present them to our readers in a friendly way. We want to make information more accessible to the public”, explained Sirkeli.
Veaceslav Craciun, one of the Nokta journalists, remarked that there are tens of mass media in Gagauzia, which is a lot for a region with under 150,000 inhabitants. Nokta will be different because the team will be publicly presented, which is rare for Gagauzia, and the articles will be signed by their authors.
“Our goal is not to cover all the events, but to highlight the most important moments, to check them and analyze them. We don’t serve the interests of political parties, but the information needs of the people”, said Craciun.
Nokta is project initiated by Piligrim-Demo with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy. The website is in Russian.
