Gagauz parliament hasn’t approved new executive body

The Executive Committee proposed by Gagauzia’s new governor Yevgeniya Gutsul has failed to secure the approval of the People’s Assembly, which cited procedural inconsistencies, the local news portal gagauzinfo.md reported.

In particular, the Assembly said that Gutsul included heads of districts in the Committee, when by procedure she was supposed to include district administrations instead.

Meanwhile outside the Assembly building, a rally was held to demand the Committee’s approval. It was organized by supporters of Gutsul and of the Shor Party, which was recently declared unconstitutional.

Last week, the Assembly rejected the request to even consider the approval of the Committee, asking Gutsul to change its makeup. The lawmakers complained that three of 21 candidates had no ethnic affiliation with Gagauzia and didn’t speak the language. Today Gutsul proposed the same unchanged lineup.

The law allows the governor of Gagauzia to dissolve the Assembly if it fails to approve the Executive Committee within 45 days.
