Gagauz mayors’ offices to be outfitted with office equipment

Seventeen mayors’ offices in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia will be furnished with office equipment as part of the project “Assisting Gagauz Authorities in Implementing the Social and Economic Development Strategy in Gagauzia through DELTA-Moldova” /Developing Economies Locally through Action and Alliance/.
The project was initiated by LGI/OSI and is co-financed by Soros-Moldova Foundation. In Moldova, it is implemented by the Institute for Development and Social Initiative (IDIS) “Viitorul”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The DELTA methodology was successfully used in a number of transition countries in Western Balkans and turned out to be innovative and flexible in causing sustainable social and economic growth changes, IDIS says in a communiqué.
The 17 mayors’ offices were selected by the Gagauz executive taking into account the principle of geographical representation. The given offices will receive by a computer and a multifunctional printer, which will help to better administer the public services, said Liubomir Chiriac, program coordinator at IDIS “Viitorul”.
“The equipment that the offices have at present is old and inefficient in administering the public affairs. The licensed software will help them devise and update databases and to keep in touch with the people,” Chiriac said.
The regional authorities also intend to set up a business incubator and a tourist complex called “Gagauz Village” that will provide a wide range of services. The priorities were formulated basing on the Social and Economic Development Strategy of Gagauzia for 2009-2015, worked out with the assistance of IDIS experts.
A Regional Economic Development Agency will be created as part of the same project. The Agency will deal with crossborder projects, with Romania and Ukraine. There will be made a documentary about Gagauzia in order to promote the region’s economic potential among investors.
