Gagauz governor accuses prosecutor in autonomy of corruption

Mihail Formuzal, the governor of the Gagauz autonomy, accuses prosecutors in the region of corruption. Wednesday, the governor told a news conference that the prosecutors in the autonomy would allegedly hide many illegalities, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihail Formuzal is angry that the prosecutor's office sued his decision on exempting from the VAT the construction works on a school in Ceadar-Lunga town. Formuzal says similar ordinances had been issued in other 24 cases, from 2002 to 2006, before his coming to power, but none of them was sued. “21 decisions of this type even did not pass through the regional parliament, what was contrary to the regional law, incurring damages of 18 million lei,” the governor said. After writing several petitions to the former and present general prosecutor of Moldova, governor Formuzal asks for setting up a special committee to review the case. Attending the governor's news conference, Gagauzia's prosecutor Gheorghe Leiciu dismissed the accusations, calling them as absurd political insinuations. “The governor has lied openly and directly for many years, and his illegal decisions entered force. No doubt, the accusations are an electoral maneuver,” the prosecutor said. At the same conference, when asked about law-suits against him, Formuzal has answered “that law-suits are not started only against the members of the ruling party (Communists) and saints, while normal politicians from Moldova are sued.” Prosecutor Gheorghe Leiciu says Formuzal is accused of power abuse and damages of 5 million lei brought about to Ceadar-Lunga town when he was a mayor there.
