Future PCRM leader will be by 40 years younger than Vladimir Voronin

The leader of the Communists Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin said they already decided who will be his successor, but he cannot give his name. He only said that this is a young, handsome man that is by 40 years younger than he, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Communist leader said he announced his plans to give his place to a much younger leader at the last congress of the PCRM in March 2008. According to him, this fact made some of the members who aspired to the leadership leave the party. “At the party's ordinary congress on March 15, 2008, I said my successor will be by at least 40 years younger than me. Mister Stepaniuc took the pencil and calculated. As he realized he is not in this age bracket, he was to look for another party to join,” Voronin said. For his part, Victor Stepaniuc said he never wanted to become the leader of the PCRM and he defected from the party for other reasons. Asked if heavyweight Communist MP Mark Tkachuk could replace him, Vladimir Voronin said the PCRM works in Moldova, making it clear that Tkachuk is not fit for this post as he does not speak the official language, though he has the necessary abilities. Voronin said he wasn't concerned about the fact that a number of MPs and other members left the PCRM. “These defections do not influence the development prospects of the PCRM. It is important that we get rid of the leeches and careerists who were accepted into the party by mistake,” he said. Asked if the structure and symbols of the party will be changed, Vladimir Voronin answered that some of the things will be modified. “The PCRM includes 10-12% of the members of the Soviet Communist Party. The others are new members and it would be easier for them to change certain things,” Voronin said.
