The provision of further assistance to Moldova by the foreign partners depends on the continuation of reforms, said experts invited to the talk show “European horizon” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
Ovidiu Nahoi, journalist and political analyst, considers the sanctions imposed on Moldova by the foreign partners do not have the desired effect. “Romania went through difficult periods. The EU imposed sanctions that made the citizens exert pressure on the politicians to do reforms. It’s not known if such a tactic will have the desired effect in the neighboring country. There are two Moldovas that do not look at each other. The imposition of sanctions will reduce the number of supporters of the EU in this country. I think that the most suitable tactic, which is a long-term one, is to convince the citizens of Moldova that there is place for everyone in the EU, regardless of nationality and spoken language,” said Nahoi.
Political analyst Sergiu Panainte, of the Black See Trust GMF, believes the Association Agreement with the EU is the best instrument for making the Moldovan politicians implement reforms. “This accord is the only instrument. It obliges the Moldovan politicians to do reforms. When reforms are done, the EU will provide funds. And vice versa - when there are no reforms, no financing will be offered,” he stated.
