Two men from the capital, aged 46 and 54, have been detained by police on suspicion of illegally taking over a furniture factory valued at almost €3 million. According to investigators, they allegedly took advantage of a businessman and, under the pretext of settling a debt of more than two million euro, induced him to sell the company at a price far below its real value, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, the scheme was initiated in 2020, when the victim, a 56-year-old man, was misled and persuaded to transfer the factory to the name of one of the suspects. Instead of covering his debt of more than €2 million, the business was transferred for just €600,000. But the two suspects later allegedly refused to pay the real debt.
In order to gather evidence, the lawmen carried out 12 searches of the suspects' homes, offices and cars. With the help of masked officers from the Special Police Task Force "Lightning", investigators seized documents, contracts, phones and SIM cards. At the same time, one of the suspects allegedly tried to destroy drugs during the raids.
Both men were placed in custody for 72 hours and face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
