The campaign “You Build the Future” aimed at raising funds for transforming the boarding school in Cahul into a social services complex continues. A sum of 110,000 lei had been collected during the last five months through the boxes placed in shop chains all over the country. The campaign was launched by the Office of EveryChild in Moldova last yearend, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the organization. According to the quoted source, the project titled “Reorganization of the Cahul-Based Boarding School” was initiated in the summer of 2007 and is aimed at transforming the institution into a complex of socials services designed to create an environment close to the family and the community for raising the child. There will be set up a temporary placement center consisting of six family modules for children younger than 16 who are orphans or remained temporarily without parental care and eight social apartments for orphan graduates of the boarding school. “The funds obtained by EveryChild from foreign donors went to transform the block of study into a placement center that will be inaugurated in September. A sum 120,000 lei was collected during the first stage of the campaign “You Build the Future”. The money was used to outfit the center with furniture and electrical appliances,” the communiqué says. EveryChild Moldova considers that the project is a model for reorganizing a residential institution that can be replicated at national level. For the first time in Moldova, the educational process was separated from the social one inside a residential institution. From September 1, 2007, all the children placed in the boarding school have attended community schools. Works to build the social apartments started on July 1 this year.
