A female employee of the Rascani District Council and her husband are suspected of traffic of influence and swindle. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and sent to court the criminal case against the two, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to prosecutors, in July 2013 – September 2015, saying she can influence officials of the district commissions and inspectors of the Audit Office and of the Ministry of Finance’s Financial Inspectorate, the woman asked and received bribe from two persons who applied for compensation as a result of political repression. The two gave her 230,000 lei in all, including through the agency of her husband.
Also, at the beginning of this March, the woman, acting in complicity with her husband, asked for 8,000 lei from the same persons, who are entitled to compensation as victims of political repression, saying an inspection will be carried out to check the files of applicants for such compensation. She promised she will influence the examination commission and the allowances paid to the two will not be diminished.
At the request of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the woman was suspended from post and is now investigated under house arrest, while her husband, who is a retired ex-employee of the Ministry of the Interior, was banned from leaving the country. The two face up to six years in jail.
