Functionaries of Common Monitoring Center arrested as a result of searches

Two public servants of the Common Monitoring and Coordination Center of the National Patrolling Inspectorate were arrested as a result of searches carried out on February 16. More persons are being investigated in this case and their status will be decided later, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan told a news conference, being quoted by IPN.

The searches were performed within two criminal cases started over passive corruption and abuse of power, which involve employees of the Center. The minister said the two functionaries are suspected of ignoring violations of the Road Traffic Regulations. Thus, in exchange for sums of money these freed a number of persons from fines and penalty points.

The minister noted that the suspects destroyed the reports on the committed violations and wrote other reports, indicating minor violations. There were seized electronic devices that will be examined to see how many violations the Center’s employees ignored.

It was estimated that damage of about 262,000 lei was caused to the state budget as a result of these illegalities.
