Fuel prices continue to soar

The prices of gasoline and diesel fuel rise again. For Friday, March 11, the National Agency for Energy Regulation announced the highest gasoline and diesel fuel prices - 27.08 lei/liter, up 0.40 lei from today, and, respectively, 25.80 lei/liter, up 0.80 lei, IPN reports.

The Agency said the set prices were influenced by the average quotations on international stock exchanges for 14 days. It should be noted that the stock prices in the period grew by over 500 US$ per tonne of diesel fuel. Today the quotations declined.

The demand for oil products has increased on the domestic market as consumers rushed to create reserves so as to alleviate the effects of the higher fuel prices on the personal budget. As a result, some of the filling stations used up their supplies during a recorded period of time.

The domestic fuel stores are sufficient to satisfy the demand. The interruption in supplies at some of the filing stations are isolated incidents generated by the elements of panic among consumers, noted the Agency.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation sets price ceilings only for gasoline “95” and for diesel fuel. For comparison, a liter of gasoline “95” at the start of September cost 20.23 lei, while a liter of diesel fuel –16.42 lei. The price of liquefied petroleum gas rose to 14.90 lei/liter.
