A fuel spot was identified in the Prut River on an area of 12 square meters. The Emergencies Service was alerted to intervene in Giurgiulesti village of Cahul district. The spot appeared in the Giurgiulesti International Prut while fueling a ship, IPN reports.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the spot stretched between the bank of the river and the lateral wall of a barge, which made the intervention difficult. Operational teams, together with port employees, collected the fuel with special absorbent materials.
The operation lasted for over an hour. The fuel didn’t cover a wide area and contamination of the water, flora and fauna in the region was avoided.
