Frontier barbed wire fence might be taken to Rybnitsa metallurgical plant
The Government of Moldova has not yet decided what to do with the barbed wire fence going along the border with Romania when it is removed. Prime Minister Vlad Filat stated for Info-Prim Neo that they expect the persons responsible for storing the barbed wire to submit proposals.
“We will not allow that this metal is appropriated by monopolists,” the Premier said, stressing that equal conditions will be created for all the economic entities that collect ferrous metals and they could sell the barbed wire to the Rybnitsa metallurgical plant.
The head of the Border Guard Service Alexei Roibu told Info-Prim Neo's reporter that 145 kilometers of barbed wire fence have been taken away so far. The barbed wire was stored and is guarded by the border guards. Under the Government's decision, the fence must be removed by end-March. If the weather is nice, the works can be finished earlier,” Alexei Roibu said.
The order to remove the barbed wire fence going along the Prut issued by PM Vlad Filat aims to bring the situation at the border in compliance with the national legislation and the European norms in the field. The fence was set up in eight of the 11 districts located near the Moldova-Romanian border in the Soviet period.
