After the conference of heads of state and government of French-speaking countries Sommet de la Francophonie ended, the Moldovan delegation led by President Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu left for Paris, to take part in the Moldova Support Platform conference. The delegation is accompanied by the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, as Nicu Popescu informed, IPN reports.

In the Francophonie Summit, there were discussed the steps taken by Moldova and France to extend the bilateral cooperation, the beneficial impact of the French investments that contribute to European modernization and the official development assistance that is needed on the path of reforms towards the European integration initiated by the authorities. The officials spoke about the last preparations for the third conference Moldova Support Platform that starts in Paris on Monday.

“I thank a lot France, Romania and Germany – the co-chairs of the Platform – that, together with our friends from G7, the EU and international organizations, transmitted a clear signal concerning the strengthening of this new format as an instrument for consolidating the international support for our country. Moldova has good friends together with which we will manage to overcome the dramatic consequences of this war for the economy and the energy sector,” wrote Nicu Popescu.

President Maia Sandu noted that Russia’s war against Ukraine affects international law and food security, increases the global energy prices and nuclear risks. “The Francofonie should represent a space of solidarity and cooperation before a war whose economic, food and energy repercussions do not have a precedent,” the official stated in the Summit.

The 18th Sommet de la Francophonie was hosted by Tunisia’s Djerba.
