The reorientation of the national economy from consumption to investments and exports represents the main challenge for the future ministers of economy and finance and for the new Government in general, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Valeriu Lazar expressed his regret at the fact that the present administration did not manage to create preconditions for changing the economic model. “Many of the economy’s sectors use the old system based on consumption, remittances and illusory stability of the budget, obtained from incomes coming from imports. It is a suitable, but not correct and sustainable model,” said the minister. According to Valeriu Lazar, the implementation of the economic recovery and stabilization program in a period of economic and political crisis can be considered an event of the economic year. “The basis for the change was laid. If we attentively analyze the structure of the GDP for the first nine months of this year, we will see that the share of the gross value added in the production sector increased. There are also other positive signs that make us optimistic. But personally, I’m not satisfied with the level of changes,” he stated. Economist Alexandru Fal, in the last number of the analyses and forecasts publication Economic Monitor produced by the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”, says that the failure to change the economic model and improve the quality of the economic growth was mainly determined by the low pace of the structural reforms. Though steps have been taken during the last year to simplify the regulatory framework and to remove the barriers hindering entrepreneurial activity, there are no efficient instruments for controlling the implemented amendments, especially at local level. Entrepreneurs continue to report cases of excessive bureaucracy and corruption in state institutions.
