From Bucharest, Mihai Ghimpu will leave for Suceava and Iasi
Moldova's Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, the Head of Parliament, will be paying an official visit to Romania during April 27-28, at the invitation of Romanian President Traian Basescu. Upon arrival, Mihai Ghimpu will lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier in Carol the First Park in Bucharest, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the presidential press service.
In the morning of the same day, Mihai Ghimpu will have a private meeting with Traian Basescu at the Cotroceni Palace. Discussions involving the members of the two official delegations will be held afterward. They will be followed by a ceremony where they will be signed a number of bilateral cooperation agreements. Later, the two heads of state will make statements for the press.
While in Bucharest, Mihai Ghimpu will meet with the chairman of the Romanian Senate Mircea Geoana and the head of the Chamber of Deputies Roberta Anastase. There will be signed a protocol of cooperation between the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania. Mihai Ghimpu will also have a working breakfast with Romanian Premier Emil Boc.
The program of the visit also includes meetings of the Acting President and a group of Romanian businessmen at the Chamber of Trade and Industry, and with the mayor general of the municipality of Bucharest Sorin Oprescu. A ceremony will be then held at the Law Faculty of the University of Bucharest to confer the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on Mihai Ghimpu.
In the morning of April 28, Mihai Ghimpu will meet with His Holiness Daniel, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church. Afterward, the Moldovan delegation will travel to Suceava and Iasi. At the Putna Monastery, Mihai Ghimpu and Traian Basescu will lay wreaths at the monument to Stephan the Great and Holy. Then, they will have a meeting with His Holiness Pimen, the Archbishop of Suceava and Radauti, and with Priest Melchisedec, the Abbot of the Putna Monastery.
In Iasi, Mihai Ghimpu will hold meetings with representatives of the local authorities and will visit the University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza”, where he will meet with students and the management of the University.
The official delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Iurie Leanca, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatolie Salaru, Minister of Education Leonid Bujor, Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga, Minister of Construction and Regional Development Marcel Raducan, Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu, the presidential adviser on foreign policy and European integration matters Oleg Bodrug, mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoac and other officials.
