Freshly returned from Brussels, President Voronin schedules trip to Moscow
President Voronin will leave for Moscow on June 22. In this context, Voronin had earlier discussed with Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, about the perspectives of solving the Transnistrian conflict, considering Moldova’s position.
The Presidency did not give too many details about the president’s visit to Moscow. The presidential press service announced that Solana and Voronin talked about the opportunities of expanding the cooperation between Moldova and the EU within the European Neighbourhood Policy.
At the same time, according to the Russian Kommersant daily paper, “Russia is determined to solve the Transnistrian problem, as well as Voronin is. We appreciate his optimism”, writes the newspaper.
This is going to be the second meeting between the two presidents in the last two week. Thanks to his efforts and numerous trips to Chisinau, the Russian envoy Iuri Zubakov managed to establish a closer relation between Moscow and Chisinau, Kommersant writes.
Vladimir Voronin is going to Moscow after he has visited Brussels and Luxembourg, where he participated in the works of the EU-Moldova Cooperation Council. On Monday, he met with Jaap Hoop de Scheffer, NATO Secretary General, who informed him about the urgency of finding a solution within the international negotiations format. At the same time, the U.S. recommended a multinational force as a solution for the Transnistrian conflict.
