French assistance of €800,000 for “Moldelectrica” and CFM

The Government of France will offer technical assistance to the value of €800,000 to the state-run enterprises “Moldelectrica” and “Moldova’s Railways“ (CFM). Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, and Chief Executive Officer of the French Development Agency Rémy Rioux signed a memorandum to this effect, IPN reports.

In a news conference, Andrei Spînu said the signed memorandum comes to support the important reforms in the field of railways and the modernization of Moldova’s energy system. By this gesture, the French government proves its support and friendship for Moldova.

A sum of €400,000 will be used to ensure energy security and to carry out two studies on the post-synchronization of the transport network of “Moldelectrica” with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity ENTSO-E. The rest of the sum will go to implement the reform and reorganization plans of CFM.

“These investments in the form of technical assistance will increase our country’s security level and will help to rehabilitate Moldova’s railways in accordance with the European standards. These state-run companies, “Moldelectrica” and CFM, will become more efficient and profitable. We hope we will be able to implement good French practices in these areas,” stated Andrei Spînu

He note that they agreed additional financial assistance of €60 million for supporting the country’s budget. “This year in February, you inaugurated the office of the French Development Agency here, in Chisinau. It was a gesture of confidence in our country’s development prospects, in our capacity to build stronger, more resilient and more European economy and society,” said the minister.

Rémy Rioux said that he came to Chisinau to transmit a powerful message of support for the reform agenda of the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The reforms are ambitious, concrete and evidently difficult in the cortex of the multiple crises – the pandemic, explosion of prices and war in Ukraine. “The FDA aims to mobilize all its capacities here, in your country, surrey financing the public sector, the Government, “Moldelectrica”, “Moldova’s Railways“. These are the first two technical assistance programs and they will not have sense if they do not lead to concrete investments in projects. We get ready to do this during the next few years,” state Rémy Rioux.
