Freedom Monument remains on paper

The Freedom Monument dedicated to the April 2009 events will not be erected this year either because there is no money for the purpose. “The project costs about 7 million lei. We will be able to discuss this subject when there is money,” Deputy Minister of Culture Gheorghe Postica stated for Info-Prim Neo. If financial resources are found, the monument will be built during about eight months. According to the draft design, the Freedom Monument will represent an oblique cross consisting of 12 black metal boards. The commemorative plaque in memory of Valeriu Boboc, who was killed on April 7, 2009, wasn’t set up either in the Great National Assembly Square, as the mayor of Chisinau suggested. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Dorin Chirtoaca said he will return to the idea put forward last October. “The monument has been planned. We are examining all the aspects, including the placement costs, but we cannot give details now,” he stated. As to the initiative to name Sergey Lazo St as April 7 St, the mayor said that it will be considered. A draft decision to this effect will be soon submitted to the Municipal Council.
