Chisinau students can obtain free cards that give them the opportunity to borrow books at any branch of the Municipal Library B.P. Hasdeu. Those interested can contact the offices near their homes or schools. In turn, librarians will tour schools as part of an information campaign.

Mariana Harjevschi, general director of the B.P. Hasdeu Library, stated that the card holders enjoy a series of opportunities: access and searches in the electronic catalog, books in electronic format, the card being a gateway to the library’s online resources. The card can be obtained at any time of the year.

“We believe that the nearly 10,000 children enrolled in first grade or the over 100,000 students in Chisinau will be part of the offer launched by the Municipal Library. We want to attract new readers and keep the old ones loyal”, said Mariana Harjevschi.

Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici said she believed the Municipal Library will be able to attract many visitors and readers, who will discover a wide range of services. In recent years, the Municipal Library significantly expanded the range of services by involving children in various interactive educational activities.

Daniela Munca-Aftenev, deputy head of education and ambassador of the Municipal Library, emphasized that the love of reading among children is important, especially in the age of technologies. Aftenev hopes that “this card will achieve its goal of bringing new readers to the library and making the existing readers loyal, who are waiting for interesting, creative events for everyone, young and old”.

During the campaign, each branch will organize workshops and demonstrations on the use of the library’s digital resources: databases, e-books, online study platforms. There will also be meetings with personalities, ambassadors of the campaign, who will discuss the role and importance of digitization. There will be raffles with prizes for users and a competition for the most creative decoration with the participation of librarians.
