Free bicycles for Chisinau

People looking for a ride on the capital’s streets will have this possibility starting Saturday, June 23. The bikes can be rented for 1 hour, for free, using an ID. The campaign is part of the “Veloo” project, started in Romania, reports Info-Prim Neo. The 25 bicycles available are for 3 age categories, and can be rented in the Central Park, near the Codru hotel. The campaign promotes a healthy lifestyle, both through sports and a clean environment. The project’s organizers will also organize different contests. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said, in his ceremonial opening statement, that the pedestrian is a priority of rank 1.The latter is followed by cyclists, public transportation and, only afterwards, private transportation. “This is the first step towards introducing bicycles in Chisinau’s public space. I am convinced that this mode of transportation will become more popular from now on. We will see to it that bicycles make part of the urban transport infrastructure”, mentioned Dorin Chirtoaca. The bicycles can be rented 7 days a week. Veloo is a pilot project, implemented by the Public Association “Cutezatorul”. The “Orange” company is an official partner. The project was developed with the help of the Chisinau City Hall, AIESEC Chisinau, and the Gheorghe Asachi Lyceum.
