A scam of particularly large proportions left dozens of people who hoped to purchase cars at advantageous prices without money. According to the authorities, during only two months, more than 30 people were deceived by a company based in Stăuceni, the total damage exceeding 5.2 million lei, IPN reports.
According to prosecutors, the scammers created a false appearance of the existence of cars for sale, using convincing images and videos. Customers signed contracts and paid considerable amounts in foreign currency, but once the money was collected, the sellers disappeared without a trace, interrupting all communication.
Four people - two men aged 27 and 34 and two women aged 25 and 28 – were charged. Two of them are already in pre-trial detention, but deny the charges. The other two are wanted and arrest warrants were issued against them.
The prosecutors and police officers in Râșcani district continue the investigations in order to identify all the persons involved and to recover the damage. Effort is being made to find and confiscate illegally obtained goods.
The Prosecutor's Office urges anyone who has been a victim of this scheme to contact the authorities to help fully investigate the case.
