Francophone Film Festival in Chisinau and Tiraspol

Fourteen recent francophone films will be screened within the Francophone Film Festival on March 20-27. The 15th event of the kind will be opened on the International Francophonie Day at the Gaudeamus Movie Theater in Chisinau, at 5pm. On March 25, two francophone films will be shown in Tiraspol, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the French Alliance in Moldova, during the event the spectators will be able to see French, Belgian and Canadian films in international co-production, which were awarded at international festivals.

The festival will be opened by “The Belièr Family”, which will be subtitled in Romanian. This is a comedy directed by Eric Lartigau about a deaf teenage girl with a wonderful voice. Produced in 2014, the movie was shot in France and Belgium. The second film that will be shown in Chisinau is the drama “Deepan”, which was awarded the “Palme d’or” at the Cannes Festival 2015.

The films that will be screened in Tiraspol on March 25 are “Belle and Sebastian” and “The Belièr Family”. These will be subtitled in Russian.

This year’s festival is designed to render homage to the Lumière brothers, Auguste and Louis -French engineers who invented the motion picture camera.

The event is organized by the French Alliance in Moldova with support from the Embassy of France. Entrance is free of charge.
