François Hollande: Association is not a final stage in Moldova – EU relations

“The signing of the Association Agreement is not a final stage in the relations between Moldova and the European Union,” President of France François Hollande said in a meeting with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca at his Residence in Paris, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the two officials discussed the importance of stability in the region and of the reforms in the Eastern Partnership member states. The French head of state assured that his country will continue to support Moldova’s European course.

For his part, Iurie Leanca welcomed France’s readiness to help in the context of the future relations between Moldova and the European Union. He underlined that France is an important partner of Moldova and the bilateral political dialogue between the two states should be intensified.

The Premier said that Moldova wants to strengthen the cooperation with the International Organization of the Francophonie and expressed readiness to stage a conference to popularize the Francophonie in Chisinau.

On June 16-18, Iurie Leanca is making an official visit to France, at the invitation of President François Hollande. It is for the first time that a Moldovan Premier is invited to pay a visit by the head of the French state.
