France donates 12 generators for Moldova’s medical institutions

France has donated 12 electric generators to the Republic of Moldova for outfitting medical institutions. This way, in the case of power outages, the patients connected to vital equipment in intensive care units and in operating theaters will be safe. The Ambassador of France to the Republic of Moldova Graham Paul, in the ceremony to officially hand over the donation, said that France and the European Union are fully committed to assist the Republic of Moldova to cope with the consequences of the war in Ukraine, IPN reports.

“This support covers all the areas: humanitarian, economic, security and energy ones. This donation comes to build the energy resilience of the health system. Today, we have a donation of 12 generators that will be offered to the Ministry of Health for equipping  medical institutions in the Republic of Moldova. To make these generators functional, voluntary electricians offered their services to put them into operation in the best conditions. It is very important to put these generators into operation as swiftly as possible so as to counteract possible blackouts due to Russia’s attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine,” said the French diplomat. Graham Paul noted that this is a gesture of solidarity with a country that currently experiences multiple challenges, but that obtained the EU candidate status and France supports it fully.

The donation to the value of over €245,000 forms part of the support offered within Team Europe - the EU and the Member States – through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

EU Ambassador to Moldova Janis Mazeiks said that through this donation the EU shows its solidarity with the Republic of Moldova. “Despite the interruptions in the power supply owing to the Russian strikes against Ukraine, the Moldovan authorities showed a high level of resistance in restoring the supply of power in the country. Today, for the third time in 2022, France brought its valuable support through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The EU and France today offer again the equipment and resources needed by the people. The EU remains committed to provide emergency and long-term assistance where it is necessary,” stated Janis Mazeiks.

Earlier, the Government of France offered Moldova 17 electric generators that were distributed to national hospitals. The donation came together with a batch of humanitarian aid that consisted of tents, beds, sleeping bags and hygiene kits.
