Foxes will be vaccinated against rabies

A national campaign to vaccinate the wild fauna against rabies will be carried out in the period between November 13 and 15. The foxes are the main target. The vaccines will be distributed to the subdivisions of the National Food Safety Agency, depending on the number of active holes registered officially, IPN reports.

According to the National Food Safety Agency, the vaccine will be put in the bait. When mixing the food, the foxes will break the capsules and the vaccine from inside them will be swallowed. Immunity against rabies is created in 2-3 weeks of the swallowing.

The vaccine is authorized only for the immunization of wild animals. The Agency calls on the population to tie or cage the domestic dogs during 14 days of the launch of the vaccination campaign. If dead animals are discovered on the areas where the animals are immunized, those who find them are obliged to leave them there and to immediately inform the nearest veterinarian, the local public authorities or the hunting unit so that they take samples for lab analyses.

The National Food Safety Agency said 10 cases of rabies were identified last week, two of which in dogs, two in cats, four in cows, one in a goat and one in a fox.
