Fourteen villages in Causeni, Stefan Voda, Leova and Vulcanesti districts remain partially disconnected from the supply of electricity following the whiteout. The snowdrifts hamper access to a number of settlements, IPN reports.
Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcan said that movement in nine villages of Orhei district is difficult. These are: Berezoci, Bulaiesti, Marzaci, Marzesti, Jora de Sus, Jora de Mijloc, Jora de Jos, Pohribeni, and Hajdeni. It’s also difficult to travel to and through Rumeantev, Iujnoe, Badicul Moldovenesc, Slobozia Mare, and Vulcanesti of Cahul district.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, snow cleanup teams continue to work on the local access roads to Susleni, Jora de Sus, Pohrebeni, Marzesti, and Berezoci, where the blizzard formed snowdrifts up to 1.5 meters high at night. The access road to Cismichioi, Etulia, and Alexandru Ioan Cuza of Vulcanesti and Cahul districts was unblocked. A number of 29 snowplows are working in the difficult sectors.
Drivers are urged to carry sand and shovels in the trunk. In emergencies, help can be sought on 901.
In Chisinau, a pole cracked because of the snow and ice and fell on an electric power line in Centru district. The area was inaccessible to traffic for about 40 minutes.
According to the Chisinau National Emergency Center, two children of 12 and 13 were found frozen on Cuza Voda Blvd. in Botanica district in the evening of January 29. The minors said they remained on the street after their grandmother, with whom they lived, was hospitalized and they didn’t have the key to the apartment. The children were admitted to the Municipal Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco” for rehabilitation.
