Four persons aged between 20 and 23 who live in Chisinau are suspected of dispossessing persons of mobile phones, tablet PCs and other expensive electronic devices bought from two known shops operating in Chisinau based on loans raised from microfinance companies, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the suspects published on social networking sites announcements of job offers that would genera rapid profit. Those who fell into the trap were persuaded to buy products from the two shops based on loans they raised in their name and then to sell these to the suspects for 1,000-3,000 lei. They said they had relations with employees of the shop and their loans will be annulled so that everyone will make a profit. In reality, the products cost 20,000 to 70,000 lei and the loans weren’t annulled, clients’ debts rising continuously. The suspects resold the products through announcements placed on the Internet.
Different types of electronic devices to the value of over 1.2 million lei were seized during the 17 searches carried out at the four suspects.
About 40 persons were cheated this way in addition to those who filed complaints earlier. The four young people were placed under house arrest. The prosecutors challenged the decision to place them under house arrest to a higher court.
