The police arrested four men that are suspected of killing two other men in Hiliuți, Fălești over a card game.
Moldovan Police Chief Iurie Podarilov told a press briefing the arrests involved 12 troops of the special forces Fulger, as the suspects were known to be armed and previously convicted.
Two bodies were discovered yesterday afternoon in a small strand of trees near the village of Hiliuți. The men, originating from Bălți, appeared to have been badly beaten, in particular in the head.
Eight hours later, four suspects were held. Two of them were arrested while at home, as two others were identified by the SIS and arrested in the street.
It is believed the victims had been lured for an aftergame, following a card game in which the duo had won 3,000 euros, reportedly by cheating. But the aftergame turned out to be only a pretext for the four suspected gangsters to exact their revenge. “You don’t play tricks on members of the criminal underworld”, Deputy Chief Igor Zglavuța told reporters.
After being beaten with a crowbar, the two were loaded in the trunk of a car and left on the village outskirts. The car, which belonged to one of the victims, was later set on fire in a Călărași forest.
The suspects face life imprisonment.
