Four servicemen died while doing their military service so far this year. Following investigations carried out by the competent bodies, it was confirmed that in three cases there was suicide, and one death occurred following a road accident. There were no such cases during 2023, the Ministry of Defense said in a response to an inquiry made by IPN.

As for the case that happened in April, when a soldier shot himself with his weapon, the Ministry said that, following the conducted investigations, the cause of death was established as suicide. The reasons that made the soldier take his own life are related to his private life.

“The National Army lays emphasis on the improvement of the psychological and physical training of the military and carries out a series of training activities in different areas – respect for human rights, gender equality, financial training, etc., including with the involvement of representatives of civil society,” said the Ministry of Defense said. Increased attention is paid to the studying and correct handling of the provided weapons and to the observance of technical security measures.
