If legislative elections were held next Sunday, four parties would enter Parliament. The Party of Socialists would gain 36.9% of the vote, the Party “Action and Solidarity” –14.1%, the Democratic Party – 7.8% and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”– 6.5%, shows an opinion poll presented by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova on April 2, IPN reports.
Over 20% of those polled don’t know who they would vote or didn’t want to answer, while 7% said they would not take part in elections. Thus, almost one third of the respondents could not formulate a choice.
Of the respondents who share particular political beliefs, 50.5% said they would vote for the Party of Socialists, 19.3% for the Party “Action and Solidarity”, while 10.7% for the Democratic Party. According to the president of the Association of Sociologists and Demographers Victor Mocanu, the results show the picture based on the party-list proportional representation system.
To the open question about the political personality they trust most, 53% of the respondents answered Igor Dodon, 22% - Maia Sandu, 4% - Vladimir Voronin, 3.5% – Pavel Filip, while 3% - Vlad Plahotniuc.
The poll also shows that three of ten citizens changed their electoral preferences during the last few years. 19% said the Internet influenced this decision to a great extent, 8% to a very great extent, 18% to a small extent, 6% to a very small extent, while 23% not at all. The others could not say.
According to Eugeniu Stirbu, director of the Chisinau branch of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations, the Internet and the blogs play an increasing role in the election campaign.
In the elections campaign, the citizens prefer to inform themselves from TV news bulletins – 69%, the Internet and blogs – 42%, newspapers – 25% and talk-shows and analysis programs - 29%. Over one third of the respondents said they use the Internet daily.
Each fifth respondent said the mass media considerably contribute to the civic education of voters, while 56% said they influence a lot the election outcome. Some 17% consider the elections in Moldova are free and fair, while 4% think they are partially free and fair.
The poll was conducted in 79 communities, except for the Transnistrian region, during March 16 – 28. It covered a sample of 1 197 people and has a margin of sampling error of +/- 3%.
