Four notifications concerning the organization of events in the central square of Chisinau on August 26 were submitted to the Chisinau City Hall. The head of the Legal Assistance Division Valeriu Bogdan on August 21 said the right to stage demonstrations is stipulated in the Constitution and the City Hall cannot ban this. The local administration and the police will maintain public order so that the events are held peacefully.
The head of the NGO “Salvgardare” Maia Laguta criticized the National Resistance Movement ACUM that announced a large-scale protest for August 26. She said she should be given priority as she informed about her intention to stage an event in the central square on this date earlier.
Igor Grosu, of the National Resistance Movement ACUM, said the rally will be peaceful and the local administration and the police have all the legal and logistic instruments needed to ensure the proper holding of public events. They also have the tools needed to delimit the space for different events. The protest was announced and they will protest in an organized and civilized way in central Chisinau on August 26.
According to the website of the Chisinau City Hall, notifications for August 26 were also filed by the group of Aurel Bucureanu, Alexei Frolkop and Svetlana Shandovskaya, who announced a protest against the rise in fuel prices, and by the public association “Credință Patriei”, which intends to demonstrate and promote the national-patriotic values.
