Four national roads from southern and central districts of the country continue to be isolated by snow. As a result of the blizzard conditions on the night of January 19, the access to 25 villages in seven districts was blocked, IPN reports.
Head of the Operative Service of the State Road Administration Sergiu Capatana has told IPN that the snow removal works in the central and southern regions of the country continued at night. The situation on the public roads is satisfactory, except for sectors that are covered with snow.
The Ciumai - Burlaceni – Vulcanesti - Slobozia Mare section of the M3 Chisinau – Cimislia –Vulcanesti – Giurgiulesti road and sections of the R30 Anenii Noi – Causeni – Stefan Voda road, at the border with Ukraine, are impassable. Traffic was also disrupted in Stefan Voda district near the village Olnesti, on the R36 Basarabeasca – Ceadar–Lunga–Taraclia road and on the R 38 Vulcanesti – Cahul – Taraclia.
Snowdrifts appeared as a result of the snowstorm with strong winds that intensified to 30 km/h in parts. The 25 villages to which access is barred are from the districts of Causeni, Stefan-Voda, Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, Comrat and Ceadar-Lunga.
In the evening of January 18, the Emergencies Commission was convened to discuss the weather conditions in the country. It was reported that over 70 villages were blocked by snow. The authorities decided to involve the armed forces and vehicles with tracks so as to unblock access to them.
