Four MPs who left Communist faction join “United Moldova”

The four MPs who withdrew from the Communist parliamentary group and the PCRM joined the party “United Moldova”. In a news conference on Tuesday, the MPs said several more persons will leave the PCRM and will join the mentioned party the coming days, Info-Prim Neo reports. Victor Stepaniuc, Vladimir Turcan, Valentin Guznac and Ludmila Belchenkova, who left the Communists Party at the start of December, announced they launched a new political project. They said they joined “United Moldova” because it is based on Social-Democratic principles and doctrines. “This political project will enable to take steps aimed at strengthening the country and creating a Social-Democratic state of law,” said Vladimir Turcan. “About 60% of the electorate supports the left parties. After the last elections, the voters dispersed. “United Moldova” aims to join these forces and build a better future.” Victor Stepaniuc said “United Moldova” will be a moderate left party, between the Democrats and Communists, while the new composition of the party will provide stability and new solutions to all the state problems, including the problem of separatist. Ana Tcaci, the president of “United Moldova”, voiced hope the changes will give a fresh impetus to the party. She also said that she will feel better as vice president of the party. Victor Stepaniuc and Vladimir Turcan said the new president of the party and the new program will be decided at an extraordinary congress that will take place in the near future. They did not rule out that one of them could become president of “United Moldova”. Asked what they will do if the early elections do not take place, Turcan said the Constitution will be thus seriously flouted. “I'm still sure that the parliamentary elections will be held this autumn,” Turcan said, adding that they created the new political project with the aim of offering an alternative to the PCRM. The MPs said the party is open to persons of any age, to Communists, Socialists, Social-Democrats and Democrats. The politicians also spoke about the mistakes committed by the PCRM and the reasons why they left it. They consider it unacceptable that the PCRM's eight-year rule ended with a political tragedy on April 7. “The policies promoted by the PCRM at internal level and abroad discredited the party. Dorin Chirtoaca became mayor because the Communists Party made an incorrect decision not to form a post-electoral coalition in 2007,” they said. In the last elections in which “United Moldova” ran, it polled 0.22% of the vote.
