Four more persons involved in ‘bribe for judges’ case under arrest

The court accepted prosecutors’ requests to place the doctor, lawyer, judicial assistant and the private individual, who were arrested on October 23 together with five judges and a prosecutor, under preventive detention for 30 days, IPN reports.

The lawyer, judicial assistant and private individual will be held on remand at Penitentiary No. 13, while the doctor at the remand prison of the National Anticorruption Center.

Three judges of the five detained on corruption charges on October 23 will be held at the remand prison of the National Anticorruption Center, while two judges and the prosecutor were placed under house arrest.

The judges are suspected of asking for and receiving large sums of money for passing favorable judgments in a number of examined criminal cases. The lawyer and the prosecutor acted as intermediaries in the transfer of the money. The decisions were to be pronounced in favor of the doctor and the private individual.

The paper “Ziarul de Gardă” wrote that the doctor is gynecologist-obstetrician Vadim Scarlat. This is accused of offering €2,000 for the judge to rule in his favor in a case of medical negligence that led to the death of a newborn.
