Four locomotives of Moldova’s Railways were repaired at the four depots, in Basarabeasca, Balti, Bender and Chisinau, and put into operation today, May 27, IPN reports.
According to Moldova’s Railways, 3 to 5 million lei was spent on the repair of each locomotive. The traction engines, main generators and diesel generators were changed. The bodies of some of them were also renovated.
The company’s director general Iurii Topala said the renovation of the locomotives was the best solution, noting that Moldova’s Railways has increased freight transport potential. “Almost all the trains and locomotives owned by Moldova’s Railways are worn-out. Therefore, we have to repair them and extend their life. The locomotives that were repaired will be used for five more years,” he stated.
Another two locomotives of Moldova’s Railways were renovated half a year ago.
