Four local councillors resign before term

The Chisinau Municipal Council approved the resignation of four local councillors at its meeting on November 22. The recently elected deputy mayors of Chisinau Mihai Furtuna, of the Moldova Noastra Alliance, and Vladimir Cotet, councillor of the Liberal-Democratic faction, tendered their resignation under article 84 (2) of the law on local public administration, which says that a person cannot hold the posts of deputy mayor and local councillor simultaneously. The councillors Veaceslav Iordan and Mihai Arusoi, who represent the Communist Party (PCRM), also handed in their resignation. The former interim mayor and former PCRM candidate for mayor of Chisinau Veaceslav Iordan was appointed as head of Moldova’s Water Agency by the Government on August 1. Mihai Arusoi works as commercial director of Termocom SA.
