Four persons were killed when the Moldovan helicopter was captured by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. According to the preliminary data, one of those killed is a Moldovan citizen, IPN reports.
The acting director of the Civil Aviation Authority Nicolae Buzu told a news conference that the captured helicopter was produced in 2007. It was extensively repaired in 2014 and was in a very good state. The private company that owned it was issued with an aviation license valid until 2016. This company operates both in Moldova and abroad. It is known that four persons died, but their identity is not known. It is presumed that one of the crew members is dead. The pilots are former servicemen.
The representatives of the private company said the aircraft worked for the U.S. Government based on a contract and was on a mission when it was downed. There were 18 Afghani citizens and three Moldovan crew members on board. In the afternoon of November 24, the crew issued a warning signal, saying the helicopter was attacked and was falling. There is yet no official information about hostages and the dead. The servicemen who went to the scene found four bodies there. It is alleged that one of the dead is a Moldovan, but his identity is not known.
The private company operated three helicopters in Afghanistan. Two of these worked for the U.S. Government. The captured aircraft has no connection with the UN missions.
Measures are being taken to find the persons who were in the helicopter.
