Four in five persons charged with passive corruption are male. The average age at which these are predisposed to accept unfair advantages is 39. Most of them (92%) are public sector employees, shows a study carried out by the National Anticorruption Center based on convictions pronounced in the course of a year, IPN reports.

Some 80% of the men who committed acts of passive corruption held ordinary posts, while the rest held managerial posts. In most of the cases, those tried were at their first offense.

Nine in ten offenders accused of active corruption are male. The average age at which they are predisposed to offer undue advantages is 29. The active corruption offense is usually committed on the street and in the car. 90% of those who commit such offenses work in the public sector. As in the case of passive corruption, persons who commit the first offense of the kind are usually brought to trial.

The average age of women who take bribe is 49, while of those who given bribe is 39. Both the women accused of active corruption and those accused of passive corruption stand trial being at their first offense.

The study shows in four of five cases, influence peddling is committed by men and their average age is 39. The authorities reported an increase in the number of such cases that involve persons with a criminal past. In most of the cases, the men commit offenses on the street and in the car. One in five cases of traffic of influence involves women and their average age is 39. These are predisposed to commit the offense at the workplace.

The value of bribe in passive corruption in the case of men was 7,848 lei on average, while in the case of women - – 6,661 lei. In cases of active corruption, the average bribe in the case of men was 11,072 lei, while in the case of women – 5,574 lei. In influence peddling, the average bribe was 109,528 lei and 62,914 lei respectively.
