Four heads of Oncology Institute investigated for asking for bribe

The vice director of the Consultative Diagnostic Center of the Oncology Institute and three division heads are investigated for systematically asking for bribe for providing medical services that are actually gratis. Anticorruption prosecutors on Friday conducted a number of searches at the offices and domiciles of the involved persons, IPN reports, quoting the National Anticorruption Center.

According to the Center, the criminal case was started in April and the collected evidence shows the four asked and received, in person or through the agency of third persons, different sums of money from patients for surgery, patient consultations outside appointments and other medical services that are covered by the health insurance policy and should be provided to beneficiaries free of charge. The sums asked and accepted by the investigated persons weren’t indicated in the institution’s accounting records.

As a result of searches, there were seized amounts in lei and other currencies and registers of persons who benefitted from outpatient specialized medical assistance.

The four employees of the Oncology Institute weren’t arrested.
