Four convicted for trafficking in persons
Four persons, including a woman, were sentenced to imprisonment terms for trafficking in human beings, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, based on the judgement of the Botanica District Court, the three men were condemned to imprisonment terms ranging from 5 to 10 years, while the woman – to 17 years.
Upon investigations, it was established that on June 12, 2006, one of the convicts persuaded 2 young girls to leave for the United Arab Emirates, under the pretext of jobs in one of the night clubs in Dubai. He promised them he would cover all the expenses for travel and registration of stay-visa.
According to an early worked out plan, on June 16, the man together with the woman from the same group, met the girls in a bar in Chisinau and explained them that they will reach Dubai via Tiraspol and, later, via Odessa, where they will temporarily be sheltered. The condition, the provision of sexual services upon arrival at the destination, was also discussed.
On the same day, the other two men, who pretended they were taxi drivers, took one of the victims and headed for Tiraspol, but in Botanica district they were detained by the police.
According to the judgement, besides the imprisonment terms, the Seat-Toledo automobile, which belonged to the traffickers, was converted to governmental ownership.
